What a week!

I can’t believe it’s been a week since I posted anything…OK, yes I can.

It’s been a busy, busy week.

I’ve felt like I’ve been on an emotional roller-coaster since Colton’s peanut allergy diagnosis last Wednesday, but I’m starting to feel more positive about things again. I was finally able to spend some time on the phone talking over numerous questions with Colton’s pediatric allergist on Monday night. She was so nice to talk with and helped confirm some questions & give us options on others. She is in agreement with us that if we are currently feeding Colton something and he is not having a reaction to it, to continue with that product but just to keep a close eye on any changes of the ingredients. A few of the items I questioned (ex. Honey Nut Cheerios) had almonds in them, so it appears that he might not be allergic to tree nuts at this time, but she reminded me that this can change. We will use this information to make our own decisions on food products inside our house but will communicate with most others that he just can’t have nuts – to help reduce the confusion when trying to explain peanuts vs. tree nuts. We also have the option to do a blood RAST test to determine the severity of his allergy, but that will not change our action plan at home (& our doctor did not see it as being necessary at this time). So, at this time (and because of it being an arm blood draw & knowing the stress it would put on Colton) we have decided to wait on the RAST test and will re-visit our feelings about it in 6 months or so. Our doctor is more than willing to order the blood test at any point we see fit. Colton’s just dealt with so much this past winter/early spring – with our first ear infection, pink eye, the initial allergy skin test – that I don’t want to scare him even more of going to the doctor. So – some questions were answered, some questions were still left un-answered – but I feel much better after talking with the doctor.

The weather has been fairly decent this week (although, I won’t complain at all if it warms up a little bit – at least in the mid-upper 60s!), so the boys have spent time each night after work/daycare playing outside – which they LOVE! We’ve also gone on a couple walks to get us out & about and even stopped at the playground one night.

I’m so glad it’s Friday again and am really looking forward to a fun weekend with my boys – no big plans.
