First trip of the year to the park

Our local city park is pretty great. It has lots of great pavilions to gather in & grill out at, walking trails, several playgrounds and animals (including ducks, monkeys, peacocks, tigers, bears, farm animals, bison & more).

Last Saturday was a beautiful day and we had nothing planned so we headed down to the park for the morning. 

Our first stop was the duck pond, which the boys loved. Colton, as usual, was a little cautious at first but was still very interested. We walked by the cranes, which also captured both the boys’ attention. 

Next we walked by the “small” animals – porcupines, monkeys, etc. – but none of them were outside.  We did get to see the white peacock "strut" around all fanned out.

The park has a small petting zoo with farm animals, but it doesn’t open up until around Memorial Day, so we headed to the big cats/bears area.

The boys loved them! The mountain lions were pretty active & walking around so the boys could see them pretty good (sometimes they are hard to see if they are not walking around & blend in with their surrounding pretty well). The tigers were lazy & laying down but were laying down right by one of the windows. The bears were split – one of them was lazy & just sitting by the window (easy for us to see) and the other two were walking around. The boys were a bit intimidated when the bears would walk right past the window where they were standing but otherwise thought they were all fun to see.

We made a quick pit stop down by the creek where Daddy, Wyatt & Colton took turns throwing in rocks.

Last stop – the playground! They both had a blast climbing stairs, crawling through the tunnels & sliding down the slides. Colton was even braver this time & was interested in trying everything out…even the swings!

We had a fun morning at the park followed by lunch out! Naptime was a welcomed rest for everyone that afternoon.
