Apple time!

After a crazy, almost non-existent apple season last fall, we were looking forward to a better apple experience this year – and we got it!!

Last Saturday had a forecast of rain but we were lucky enough that it held off until the afternoon. We went to one of the local orchards, which is owned by an old friend of Cory’s family, to enjoy a hay ride, apple picking, pumpkins & playtime. I think the boys were most excited about the wagon ride, more for watching the cool tractor that pulled the wagon than the actual ride itself.

After our wagon ride, we grabbed a couple of buckets & headed out to pick some apples. Picking apples is fun, but eating them is even better! The boys each enjoyed one while searching for the “best” ones to pick.

We left with a couple bags of apples, a bag of pears and some Indian corn for fall decoration.

After leaving, we headed over to another local orchard that we like to hit up for apple cider & their baked goods. Unfortunately, because of the awesome apple season we’re having this year, they had not started to make their cider yet as they are still busy picking their “good” apples. We didn’t leave empty handed though because we scored a box of apple donuts instead! Our plan is to head back this weekend to grab a bushel of apples for some applesauce-making next weekend & hopefully get a small jug of yummy cider.

We’ve really enjoyed the past few weeks with temps in the mid-upper 70s and sunny skies. Today begins “reality” with temps back into the 60s (which is closer to normal temp for this time of year) & rain.

Fall has arrived!
