Happy Father’s Day!

A belated Happy Father’s Day to all dads – we’ve got a couple of great ones that we celebrated.

We celebrated Father’s Day by grilling out at my parents’ house with them, us & my youngest sister and her boyfriend. The boys also got haircuts that were much needed but since we were a little before their birthday, we went a little shorter than usual (perfect for the hot summer weather we’re hoping for). It was fun & relaxing.

The boys had actually stayed overnight at Grandpa & Grandma’s the night before because Cory & I went out to supper with some friends to celebrate Cory’s cousin’s birthday. So Cory got an extra-long sleep-in morning for Father’s Day. When we got out to my parents’ house the boys & I gave him his present – a new grill! We had gone shopping for it the day before (yes, the boys helped & actually kept it a secret until that morning) & had stored it out at my parent’s house so it would really be a surprise to him. He loved it & he even got to cook on it for us this past weekend.

Little Gardeners

Because of the crazy winter weather pushing its way into May this year, followed by quite a few rainy weeks my parents were quite behind at putting in their garden this year. They finally got the opportunity, after the ground dried out a bit, about 2 weeks ago. The boys had been talking about wanting to help them plant the garden for the past month, so we took the opportunity to join them in the hard work & fun!

The boys started out by helping Papa (which Mommy ended up taking over) plant peas – easy enough. But they lost interest in that & were a lot more interested in digging in the empty dirt of the garden. So, we put that energy to good use & they helped dig holes to plant the potatoes in. After the potatoes were in, they started to be more interested in their 4-wheelers & the water hose then helping plant – so that’s just what they did. Had fun!

I’m excited to keep them interested in the garden by having them help out with weeding & watering during our visits to grandpa & grandma’s. I know they’ll be so excited to see their plants grow & hopefully want to try some of the veggies at harvest time.

A big thanks to my mom & dad for having us over and not minding the “extra” help.

"M"'s Super hero birthday party.

Cory’s cousin’s little guy “M” is just 2 weeks older than the boys. His cousin & family were back in town last weekend for another cousin’s grad party & decided to celebrate “M” turning 3 as well. The boys were excited to go to “M”’s birthday party but didn’t know quite what to expect, as we have not had any birthday parties since January.

It was a “Batman” theme party at the local park & was a beautiful night to spend outside – grilling out, playing & visiting. “M”’s grandma goes ALL OUT for any party/shower she puts on & this one was no different – the boys had lots of goodies to bring home, along with a batman cape & super hero mask. 

We had a great time and it got the boys very excited for their upcoming birthday (& party) – I just can’t believe 3 is right around the corner for my boys…less than 2 weeks!!

Fishing!

I feel like the past 2 months have been so busy, both at home & at work. Time to catch up!

2 weeks ago, we went on another camping weekend – this time we were on a lake and my parents brought their pontoon for all to enjoy. The weather was a bit warmer, but still not hot enough for me. We had a very relaxing & enjoyable weekend though.

The boys were pumped to go because we had taken them shopping the week before to pick out new fishing poles. Last year, they just “helped” us fish but this year they were going to attempt it themselves (or as much by themselves as almost-3 year olds can handle). Wyatt picked out a “Cars” pole & Colton picked out a “Spiderman” pole. I insisted they have different poles so that there is never any fighting over whose is whose.

We got out each day fishing & boating for a little while. The first day was slow but we seem to find some better spots after that. They each caught their first fish on their own pole & were super excited about that. Fishing didn’t keep their attention the whole time, but they stuck it out a lot longer than I had expected they would – definitely two future fishermen!!

We also enjoyed a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning, as the lake we were on was having a fishing contest that day & had the pancake breakfast as part of the fundraiser for lake improvement projects.
