10 month photo session

...more like 10 3/4 month photo session seeing how far behind I am this month!

Here are some pictures of the boys I was able to capture last night.  I had to adjust the "months old" sign and tape it to the chair a little higher up before I put the boys down on the chair - it actually worked (for the most part)!

They did notice the sign, but it stayed intact long enough to get a few shots...

Also, the boys had an extra special treat for snack yesterday afternoon - Jell-O cake from my nephew's baptism - yummy (but very messy, according to my sister).

46 Weeks Old

Things have just seemed really busy lately and I know with summer coming up, it’s not going to slow down any time soon. I finally sat down this weekend and picked out the boys’ 9 month professional pictures so at least I can cross that off my list. This week has been/will be spent cleaning and packing our camper since we just brought it out of winter storage a little over a week ago.

The boys’ sleep has really improved this past week. They were both really struggling for a couple weeks but have been settling back down within the last week. The boys are usually sleeping around 10-11 hours each night. They fall asleep somewhere between 6:45-7:15 PM and don’t wake up for their last bottle around 8:45 PM. They are sleeping in their cribs for the night around 9:15-9:30 PM. Colton sleeps until around 5:15-5:45 AM and Wyatt sleeps until around 6-6:20 AM. Colton is still waking up about once a night but a quick nuk replacement and just a little fussing are all we have to deal with (which is a huge improvement!). Wyatt sleeps like a rock and doesn’t even fuss for a nuk. This is constantly changing, so I’m sure they’ll shake things up again soon.

The boys have been eating mostly real, adult food with just their lunch-time fruit addition being baby food purees. They love feeding themselves and are slowly improving that skill, although there are times where it seems like they have more on their laps than they ate…but they’re working on it.

Wyatt
Wyatt has started to use everything as a “phone”. He’ll hold anything (from toys, clothes, burp clothes or just his hand) up to his ear and start “babbling”. He often makes a sound that sounds like “Hello!” so we “pretend” to talk to him when he does this and say “Hello!” & “Good-bye!” every time. It’s so funny! He also started clapping along with Colton last week.

Colton
Colton is such a “watcher”. He seems to be sitting back & studying everything, especially whatever Wyatt is doing. He’s been pulling himself up on our jungle-activity center – by pulling himself up, I mean he’s sitting next to it and he pulls with his arms – he isn’t standing up but it appears that he is trying. Also, yesterday my sister & I found him twice up on his knees next to it (when he had previously been laying or sitting next to it). I’m enjoying not having to chase both of them around right now so I’m sure Colton will be mobile in no time just to keep me on my toes!

Weekend Re-cap

We had another fun weekend. Friday night I went with my mom & sister to a local greenhouse to pick out a couple hanging baskets for my front porch. Saturday we spent the day cleaning and packing up the camper, getting ready for our first camping trip as a family of 4. We also made our weekly Wal-Mart trip – just to get out of the house for a bit. My nephew was baptized yesterday, so we enjoyed spending the day with lots of family & friends (although Colton had a slight meltdown during church until we could get him back to my sister’s house for a nap – church is always during the boys’ morning naptime, so it’s really hit or miss).

Boys’ updates:

Wyatt has been pulling himself up onto things more & more every day. He’s still a little wobbly (and a bit too brave!), which makes me nervous but it so fun to see him explore his new skills.

Colton is using rolling to get around more & more. He also started what appears to be an attempt to crawl last week. He pushes his butt and knees up a bit and wiggles around – this only gets him moving backwards, which is frustrating to him sometimes, but he sure it trying!

And, yes, I promise to get their 10 months at-home pictures take this week. This is the most behind I have been on them yet but it’s been so busy at home lately and even though I’ve been taking pictures, I haven’t broken out the “official” 10 months sign.

Colton’s Two Front Teeth & Wyatt Pulling Up

It’s been a busy week at work & home but I wanted to write a quick update about Colton’s teeth.

Last week we thought he had at least one, but maybe two, teeth coming in. After getting home from work on Thursday and feeling in his mouth again, it was very apparent that his two bottom center teeth were both broken through (they are sharp little things)! Hooray Colton! I thought those two teeth breaking through would have helped him out in his nighttime sleeping issues, but so far, it really hasn’t.

Wyatt started pulling himself up on short, low-to-the-ground object (such as their bouncer that is still out for their little cousin to use) a little over a week ago. When he is over at my parent’s house, their couch is lower than our and he has tried to pull himself up on that. Now starting this week, he has begun to pull himself up on other things around our house – toys, activity tables, and pretty much whatever his little hands can grab! Way to go Wyatt! I have a feeling he will be standing and cruising next to things in no time (which makes him mommy a little nervous).

Colton’s First Tooth!

Both of the boys have been showing signs of teething for quite a while now and up until yesterday, we hadn’t really seen any action on the tooth-breaking-through front. Yesterday, my sister (our daycare provider) was finally able to feel a tooth break through on the bottom of Colton’s mouth.

Yippee – finally, our first tooth! Woo-hoo Colton!!

I was so excited to get home and check it out. Of course, he would move his tongue down every time you tried to open his mouth to sneak a peek, so I had to be a bit craftier. I got him start laughing really hard, which made him open his mouth and then I’d sneak a peek while he was laughing. Both of his bottom front teeth spots looked white. I tried feeling, but didn’t feel anything broke through. So, we couldn’t quite tell if one was broke through and one was close or what.

I’m having my sister double check today and I will tonight as well, so an update will be coming shortly as to which tooth or teeth have broken through. So exciting…and maybe that helps explain a little bit of why they have been so crabby at night and not sleeping well.

Happy Mother’s Day!

This year was my first “official” Mother’s Day (although Cory spoiled me with a massage certificate and made me feel like a special mom-to-be last year!). I had a wonderful day. Cory was sweet enough to let me sleep in (he took the morning feeding by himself) which was very much appreciated! I received a beautiful, personalized necklace from Cory & the boys (it’s a hand-stamped necklace personalized with the boys’ names, birthdate and birthstone). The boys also made me hand-print Mother’s Day cards at daycare last week – which were so cute.

Sunday morning we made our weekly trip to Wal-Mart for some groceries and then headed out to my parent’s house for a Mother’s Day grill out with my Mom, Dad, sisters and nephews. It was a pretty nice day out and my Dad grilled up a delicious lunch, which we ended on a sweet note – Dairy Queen ice cream cake! We were also able to get outside and take a few update family photos, which turned out really good – thanks to my sister for taking them.

Happy belated Mother’s Day to all mothers, no matter what stage you’re in!

I love the focused look both boys have in this picture!

I’m behind!

We’ve had quite the week this week!

First off, the boys haven’t been sleeping well the past few nights (although – knock on wood – they slept through the entire night last night!) and then on top of that, Colton hasn’t been falling asleep very well after supper which hasn’t allowed me much time to get anything done around the house this week. Then, of course, my camera and computer decided to give me a hard time uploading pictures, so I’ve been trying to figure that issue out.

So, hopefully I will be able to get some pictures off of my camera and included with the boys’ 44 week post that I am planning on doing tomorrow!

Stay tuned!

March of Dimes – March for Babies 2011

The boys and I are planning on walking in our local March of Dimes – March for Babies walk tomorrow. Right now the weather forecast contains showers & cooler temps, so we will have to decide in the morning whether the boys will join me or not.

I was able to meet my original goal of $200 and exceeded it with my current fundraising total of $405! I was also able to help raise a little over $350 through fundraising at my work place. Thank you to all who donated to this awesome cause – you are helping us walk together for stronger, healthier babies.

This year I also purchased a Stork Story for $25 and personalized it with Wyatt & Colton’s story and photo, who are the babies I wish to honor. (These Stork Stories will be placed in a special area at March of Dimes events to remind everyone about why we work to raise money for the March of Dimes organization – we want to help babies.)

Our Top Ten Baby Items List

This is a list of ten of the most used baby items in our household during the boys’ first nine months (& beyond!).
In no particular order...

1) The Boppy Pillow. This was a lifesaver for me while breastfeeding in the early days. We continue to use it during the boys’ bottle feedings when there is only one adult to feed the two. It has also been a great tool to use for propping around the boys while they were practicing sitting. I would definitely recommend getting the protective water-proof cover that goes on under the decorative slip-cover as well; it saved us a number of times from staining the actual pillow.
2) Swaddling Blankets. The boys LOVED being swaddled. They settled down so much easier when they were swaddled. I know all babies don’t like being swaddled, but if yours does, these were the key.  I love these "stretchy" material ones the best!

3) Fisher Price Soothe n Play Bouncer. We actually have two of these because they worked so well for us. They vibrate, which was such a useful feature to help the boys sleep in the beginning. They spent a lot of time sleeping in their bouncers (mostly because of their reflux) since it was the only way we could get them to sleep for a longer stretch of time.

Fisher Price Travel Swing. This is another great tool we used. It helped the boys sleep or relax. We didn’t want them to get too dependent on the motion to get themselves to sleep but it was a great calming tool. It is also the perfect size to pack up and bring right along with you when you go other places. (we had the ‘Precious Planet’ jungle theme one similar to the bouncer pattern, but the one pictured below is very similar)

4) Playtex Drop-Ins Bottles. After trying out the Tommee Tippee brand of bottles (which the boys actually did great with, even when transitioning from breast to bottle, they just seemed to drink too fast from them and spit up a lot more, even on the slowest flow nipples) and doing some research online we tried these out. The boys did great! The flow rate of the slowest nipple has been perfect for them, even in the early days. Cleanup is also such a breeze - we only have the nipples & rings to wash every night. The replaceable liners are very reasonably priced; we really prefer the design of Target’s Up & Up brand over the more expensive Playtex brand.

5) Sophie the Giraffe. If I wasn’t a frequent visitor to the most awesome site for expecting & new moms, www.thebump.com, I would have never found out about this awesome teether. The boys LOVE their Sophie Giraffes. She is their favorite thing to chew on (besides their own fingers) and has been a lifesaver during teething. She’s made of all natural rubber & food paint – which makes me feel better about them gnawing on her 24/7.

6) Carter's sleepers. Carter’s sleepers are our favorite jammies for the boys; we especially like the fleece ones during these cold winter months. Cory prefers the zipper ones over the ones with snaps but I don’t really have a preference. They come in so many super cute designs for boys & girls.

7) Pamper's Swaddler's. These are the diapers the boys started out in the hospital and they had also been highly recommended by many other moms. They are super absorbent and we’ve had the least number of leaks with these diapers. I never realized how finding the right diaper is more trial-and-error then anything. Some moms have problems with Pampers, some have troubles with Huggies and others have issues with the off brands. We were fairly lucky in that they boys seemed to do fairly well in most brands…but Pampers Swaddlers were by far, our favorite. I really wish they made them larger than a size 2, so unfortunately our time in them has come to an end.
8) Fisher Price Seahorse. We used this as part of the boys’ bedtime routine when they were very little. It was great at calming them down and putting them to sleep. We no longer use it during bedtime but use it when someone gets restless in the middle of the night, early morning and at naps – it still is great at soothing them. They LOVE it. It comes in both blue and pink.

9) Baby Trend Double Snap ‘n Go Stroller. This item is definitely twin specific (although they do make a single version) but I had to include it on the list as it was really the only way I could go anywhere alone with the boys. It is just a stroller frame on which the car seats snap onto but it a lightweight (if you can even say “lightweight” when you’re talking about a double stroller) way to push around two babies. It’s an added bonus that you can leave the little ones in their car seat when being out & about.
10) Exersaucer / Jumperoo. When your baby can hold their head up well, these things are the best. They are also something that are somewhat expensive, so if you can find one on sale or find a barely used one – it’ll save you a little bit of cash. We were lucky enough to find a good deal on a barely used one and also have a relative lend us a second one. We have 2 exersaucers as well as a Jumperoo. They are both great for getting your child some independent playtime – I think it just depends on your child’s personal preferences as to which is the best fit. Our boys love them both!

I also highly recommend the book Baby Bargains for researching all things baby related. I used this book while planning our registry and making those first important purchases. It combines great information on the safety, price and parental recommendations for all types of baby products.

Colton Claps!

Out of the blue, Colton started clapping Monday night! It’s so cute.
I’m sure he picked it up from Cory & I – we are always clapping when the boys do something new or on their own. What a smarty pants!

Every time I start to clap, he starts clapping. (We were even lucky enough to get it on video.)

On a related note – I think I also forgot to mention that Colton has been doing “So Big!” for a couple of weeks now. He lifts his arms up (and sometimes scrunches up his face like he’s trying to hard!) every time he hears someone say “So Big!”. Even when he’s mad & crying (like last night in his high chair at dinner), he can’t help but put his arms up in the air. He even does it when the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn puppy says it. Too cute Colton.
