The weather did not turn out as nice as originally forecasted, but it did not rain! It was cool & cloudy. Regardless of the weather, our team of walkers had a great turnout – a total of 18 walkers showed up for my family/friends team! The boys & I arrived early to register and turn in our donation sheet. After we registered, we received the walk map.
The walk was originally advertised as a 1 mile walk but ended up being a 3 mile walk. It took us through a local park & some of the surrounding neighborhoods. This wasn’t just any 3 mile walk though; it had fun snack check-points at each of the mile-markers.
At mile marker 1 was a stop at the local Dairy Queen for a free ice cream treat. It was kind of early in the morning for ice cream (let alone a bit chilly out) but Wyatt & I enjoyed a few bites of our early morning snack…Colton wasn’t interested and I can’t say that I blame him.
At mile marker 2 was a snack table with water, cookies & crackers at it. I grabbed a water for me & the boys (which Wyatt turned around & spilt most of it on himself) and a bag of Teddy Grahams for the boys.
At mile marker 3 was a snack table with a variety of fruit – apples, bananas – so I grabbed one of each for us. The boys went nuts over the apple & took turns taking bites out of it.
At the end of the walk there were lots of activities & food to enjoy in (although it was still a bit early in the morning to be overly hungry). They even had a bounce-house for the older kids. A number of local restaurants had their mascot there, handing coupons out to all the walkers but Colton wasn’t impressed at all. Red Robin was one of the restaurants & Colton kept saying “Bye-bye duck!”, even though it was supposed to be a robin. I did grab the boys each a Popsicle (again, not the best choice on a cold day) and they both enjoyed their first taste of one.
By the end of the walk, the boys hands were getting a bit chilly, so after visiting with our team-mates for a little bit we packed up & headed over to grandpa & grandma’s (who had joined us on the walk) house for a nice, warm lunch.
I want to send out a great, big thank you to everyone who joined us for the walk that day. You helped make the walk a success & helped raise awareness for the importance of full-term, healthy babies. I especially want to say thank you to everyone who made a donation toward this awesome cause – it’s because of you that this organization will be able to continue its research & support – helping future generations get a great start in life.
