Mini-spring break – Part 2 – AM

Our first overnight went great. We had brought sleeping bags for the boys to sleep on the floor; they slept well on those until about 4-5 AM at which time they each ended up in a bed with Cory or I.

We met up with our one set of friends & their kiddos at the breakfast buffet in the morning. Very yummy & so much to choose from but a bit pricier than I had hoped…even with kids eating for free.

After breakfast, we decided to try out the paint-your-own-pottery shop. This was super fun for all the kids! They each got pick out their own ceramic piece to paint. Wyatt picked out a “snail” (although later we kind of figured out it was a turtle) and Colton picked out a frog. They got to choose their own colors and paint away! The only hard part is that you had to put at least 3 coats of paint on for the paint to come out looking nice & dark in the end and the boys lost interest after their first couple of coats, so a little help from Mom & Dad was needed to finish them up. (I forgot to bring my camera but will post the “after” pictures later!)

After finishing our pottery, we went with our other set of friends & their daughter to a different water park – this one was geared towards younger kids. We had to take a shuttle bus to get there so the boys got their first ride ever on a bus.

This water park ended up being our favorite of the trip! It had a ton of fountains, squirt guns & slides just the boys’ size within a small wading pool, less than 1 foot deep. It also had an actual swimming pool that was no more than 4 foot deep all around and was filled with nice, warm water so the kids didn’t get cold (or the parents either for that fact!). It also had 3 basketball hoops in the center of the large part of the pool. They had resort-provided life jackets that the boys loved swimming around in. They also had an indoor-outdoor hot tub which was nice to warm up in and also fun to get the cold/hot effect of an outdoor hot tub in the winter. The boys thought it was cool to be in the hot tub & see the frozen lake below.

Always being funny Wyatt!

Snack time!

Both boys increased their comfort of water & swimming on their own in the life jackets tremendously within the couple hours we spent there this day. I can see such a difference from last summer in their water behavior. Wyatt’s always been a fish and continues to be. He wanted to do every slide (with mom/dad, of course), walk across the lily pad monkey bars, go underwater & just swim around. Colton has always been one to take a while to warm up to playing around in the water/pool but still has fun when he does…but things have changed. This child was a little shark! He went underwater a ton of times, started jumping into the pool by himself and preferred swimming by you, without any help at all. He amazed me at the difference – no warm up time needed for Colton anymore!

Cory & I had been talking about signing the boys up for swim lessons this month prior to our water park visit but were a little hesitant based on the lack of excitement from the boys…after this day spent in the pool, we changed our minds! We are excited to be starting swim lessons tonight – and so are the boys!
