Last Saturday officially kicked off my (& Cory’s) race season of 2014.
The last two months have been extremely cold (barely above zero for long stretches at a time) & icy, so I have only gotten a couple of outdoor runs in and have had to keep up on the treadmill instead.
Saturday morning was beautiful! It didn’t get as cold as they had thought overnight so we woke up to temps in the 20s & bright sunshine. The run benefited our local high school’s cross country team – a great cause. The 5K route was a pretty flat, which was a good way to start out with for my first race of the year. Both Cory & I set PRs and were mighty proud of it. Cory was only seconds away from being in the top 3 of his age group…so close! A yummy chili feed followed which was a great way to warm up after the run.
The boys were staying overnight at my parents’ house while we attended this run but I’m planning on bringing them to a couple 5Ks this year. I’m going to keep pushing them in the stroller as long as they still fit!
My goal is 10 races this year. I completed 6 races in the last 3 months of 2013, so this number should be obtainable. I’m sticking with 5Ks because life is just busy now; my boys are young and running 30-45 minutes 2-4 times a week to keep up with training is the perfect amount for me – keeps me healthy & motivated.
