Our First Maternity Counselor Appointment

We had our first appointment with a maternity counselor (they are the ones you see before the doctor and will also act as a “go-to” if you choose the doctor route over the mid-wives, which we have) last Wednesday. Her name was Barb & she was super nice. We just went through a bunch of paperwork, picked out our doctor, heard the heartbeats and had some lab work done. She had a “portable” machine to try to hear the heartbeats, so the first thing she said is “Don’t freak out if we can’t pick anything up with this thing.”. Well, what’s the first thing I did – think, what am I going to do if we don’t hear anything????!!!!!! Lucky for us, she was able to pick up both heartbeats. She estimated that one was 182 bpm and the other was 172 bpm – but it was really hard for her to pick them up. Still, it was very excited & special to hear that sound again.
