Week #3, daddy was able to join us again! The last night’s menu was: “Mummy Pizza Toast”, “Candy Corn Fruit Cup” & “Shake Shake Shake”. This was our final week & all the projects were Halloween-themed!
Both boys tried to make their shakes first, which consisted of coconut milk, cocoa powder & a frozen banana but I don’t think their ingredients were quite at the correct proportions to each other as neither boys liked it (& I wasn’t too fond of it either). I think with a little tweaking, it could be a yummy drink though! The next project they both chose to work on was the “Candy Corn Fruit Cup”, which consisted of cut up pineapple on the bottom, clementine oranges on top of that & whipped cream on top of that, all in a clear cup to look like the color pattern of a piece of candy corn. This one was a hit with both of them, but I’ve never had any troubles getting them to eat fruit! The final project was a big hit with Wyatt, although he put a spin on it & made it “his own”. He put each layer of the pizza toast together (minus the black olives for the mummy’s eyes) but then folded it in half & called it his “Mummy Sandwich”! He made a total of 3 “Mummy Sandwiches”. Colton doesn’t mind a lot of these projects but is really a “eat-my-foods-separate” kind of kid. He took all of the ingredients back to the table with him (although he doesn’t like pepperoni) and ate his pieces of cheese (he does like the cutting up part) separate from his bread which he ate while dipping it in the pizza sauce.

As a special treat, we stopped at a local frozen yogurt bar for a quick dessert after class (daddy hadn’t been to this frozen yogurt place yet & the boys had been dying to take him ever since I first took them there last spring). The boys were really excited to stop & we all enjoyed a small bowl of our choosing – the boys stuck with plain vanilla and Cory & I tried out the seasonal “pumpkin roll” flavor…which was delicious!

This cooking class was a little less involved than I had expected or hoped it to be (although given the time frame of the class & the attention span of the ages it targeted, it was probably right on track), but it has given us some fun & easy snack ideas to try again at home.
