At the beginning of September, the boys & I (along with my sister & nephews) attended a free kids’ cooking event put on by a local children’s activity center. The boys had such a fun time that I signed them up for a three week paid course offered by the same center.
Week #1, we brought Grandma with us as daddy was booked that night. The first night’s menu was: “Strawberry Lemonade”, “Inside-out Sandwich” & “Cinnamon-Apple-Salsa with Pita Chips”. With each recipe, they try to let the kid do as much prep work as possible…which the boys love, especially cutting (with non-sharp lettuce knives).
Both boys said their favorite recipe they made this night was the “Strawberry Lemonade”, which actually surprised me because they both turned up their noses at lemonade this past summer. The “Inside-out Sandwich” was interesting & Wyatt really liked it (Colton, not so much). It started with a piece of lunch meat, Wyatt chose turkey, with Laughing Cow cheese spread on top, sprinkled with Craisins, all wrapped around a crunchy breadstick.
We left class that night with the boys still hungry, so a quick “mini” dinner was in order when we got home. (I was kind of hoping that we could fore-go dinner on these cooking class nights.)
They both had fun and it got us out of the house & doing something a little different – a win-win in my mommy book!
