We took advantage of the beautiful weather we had this past weekend & headed out to the apple orchards on Sunday morning. (This was after I had a very successfully Saturday at my local MoM’s consignment sale & enjoyed the day with my sister!)
Last year, we headed out to the apple orchard in mid-October & there were still plenty of apples – but this year’s spring weather caused a huge apple shortage in our area. None of the orchards were even offering “pick your own” because they all had already been picked to sell.
We headed to our first orchard, owned by the parents of a friend of Cory’s. We enjoyed a wagon ride around the orchard and then the boys had fun exploring the pumpkin patch. There was a serious lack of apples from last year, which was sad to see (as you can see in the pictures below with more pumpkins in them than apples). We did buy a couple pumpkins, a small bag of eating apples & also ordered a bushel of apples (my parents & I are going to attempt to make & can applesauce this year!).
After that, we headed over to another near-by orchard to get some fresh apple cider and also picked up some yummy apple donuts.
The boys had a blast at both places – especially Colton who didn’t want to leave the first orchard because he was so intrigued by the tractor that pulled us on our wagon ride (these boys LOVE tractors) and didn’t want to stop “driving” it with daddy. He was also not very happy to get into the car after the second orchard – he really didn’t want to go home, he was just having too much fun.
The best part was enjoying our yummy purchases – we had fresh apple cider with our lunch & apple donuts for dessert. What a fun, fall tradition!
