Camping with friends

Cory & I had the entire week of July 4th off from work, so we kicked off our vacation with a weekend camping with friends.

The week prior had been quite rainy so we weren’t surprised to see lots of standing water when we arrived at the campground. Our campsite was mostly dry, so we set up & relaxed, waiting for our other friends to arrive. When our first friends arrived, the boys were more than eager to help them set up their tent. They were actually quit good helpers vs. being more of a hindrance, which is what I had expected. After they got all set up we sat down to relax no more than 15 minutes when dark clouds started rolling in. As we sat in our lawn chairs under the awning, the rain started to come in sideways, so wife “S”, me & the boys retreated to the inside of the camper, while Cory & husband “C” remained huddled under the awning outside. The rain was short lived & was the only rain we ended up dealing with all weekend. Shortly after the rain quit, our other friends made it in for the night. Their little girl “P” is a year younger than the boys & loves playing with them.

We enjoyed a weekend of friends, visiting & relaxing – it included popcorn around the fire (the boys’ favorite), beach time, playground time and a visit to a local bar that served yummy soft serve ice cream cones. The weather was warm & dry. Unfortunately, “P” ended up running a fever & the “B” family headed home a little early on Saturday evening. Not wanting to get soaked in their tent, our friends, “C” & “S”, also headed home Saturday night after we had been monitoring the weather, which was predicting rain & high winds for the night (which we never ended up getting). After everyone had left, we sat around the campfire a bit before heading into the camper for showers & a ‘Despicable Me’ movie.
