Mini-vacation!

Winter gets long in the Midwest. Prior to having kids, Cory & I liked to plan something every spring. Some years it would be a week-long getaway somewhere warm & other years it was just a weekend away close-to-home.

We decided to take a day-trip with the boys this year to break up the winter boredom. We visited an indoor amusement park & met up with Cory’s cousin, wife & son (who is just 2 weeks older than the boys!!) to spend the day together.

Our day started out a little rough, but turned out great! After a long car-ride (with both boys falling asleep along the way), we arrived at the park & purchased our ride tickets. The boys were excited for both meeting up with 3rd cousin “M” & going on rides. We were standing in line for our very first ride, the carousel, when Colton got sick. There was no warning & he didn’t seem upset by it either – poor little guy. Cory, Wyatt, his cousin “E” & son “M” went on the carousel while I took Colton to get cleaned up. He said he felt fine, so I’m not sure what the cause of it was, as that was the only time he got sick like that all day. Colton hung out in the stroller for a while as the other boys enjoyed some rides. After a bit of rest, he was begging to go on a ride, so we cautiously allowed him to try out the train ride (low-key & slow). He did fine on it & continued to go on rides for the rest of the morning. All three boys did great waiting in lines (which there were for every ride!) and really enjoyed the whole experience.  These boys had no fear when it came to any of the rides.

We got quite a few rides in before heading out to a late (& delicious) lunch. The boys fell asleep in the truck after lunch on our way to Cory’s cousin’s house – it was about 45 minutes away – so nap times were a little short that day but the boys made it through the day just fine. We visited, played & had dinner at the “S” house before getting ready for bed and heading home when it was the boys’ bedtime. All three boys played together very well & “M” shared his toys very well for being an only child (with a brother/sister on the way later this summer). It was nice to spend the time together, as we don’t get to see them very often.

All 3 of my boys fell asleep on the way home, as I took my turn to drive.

It was a fun family day & a nice little break from the winter cold. The boys are still talking about playing at “M’s” house & going on all the rides – so I’d say they had a blast too!
