Christmas in August

My grandparents live down in Arkansas but try to make the trip back to see everyone at least twice a year. This year was a busy year for that side of the family – my grandparents were back visiting in May for my cousin’s graduation and (unknowingly at the time) for a surprise 80th birthday party for my grandpa. They had to come back again in August for both of their class reunions, so they made the choice that they are not making the drive back for Christmas this year. What better way to make that up, then to celebrate Christmas in August?!

After our fun morning at the aquarium, we headed over to my aunt’s house for a summer “Christmas” picnic. Lunch was delicious and we even did a gift exchange between the great-grandkids. The boys had fun unwrapping their own present & we ended up with some new blocks, colors & color book and Play-doh. Unfortunately, a rainy afternoon kept us indoors but the boys made the most of it by playing with their cousins & 3rd cousins. We stretched the afternoon a little too long though – both boys slept all the way home (which was great!) but were super crabby after waking up when we arrived home. Lesson learned – you can only push back naptime by so much without negative consequences.
