3 year checkup

Last Monday, the boys went in for their 3 year well child checkup. Our clinic has a shortage of pediatricians right now, so ours has been overbooked. However, I was very surprised when I called back in July that this was one of the first appointment openings he had, but we just LOVE our pediatrician so he was worth the wait.

They were a little nervous leading up to the appointment, even with the reminder that there were no shots needed this time (and also reading “The Berenstain Bears Go to the Doctor”), but the day-of…they breezed right through it.

Wyatt went first and did great. He weighed 32 lbs 14 oz (54%) & was 3‘ ½” (14.5%). He was such a jokester with the doctor (isn’t he always??!!) and thought it was especially funny when the doctor found “ice cream” in his ear.

Colton was next. He weighed 32 lbs 10 oz (52%) & was 3’ 1 ½” (39%). He also did very well. When the doctor told him there was “something” in his ear (it’s been over a week & for the life of me, I can’t remember what he had “found” in there), Colton proceeded to take his hand up to his ear and made the motion of picking-and-throwing telling him, “Nope! I threw it out!”.

So they are within 4 oz & 1 inch of each other – it’s crazy how close they’ve stayed measurement-wise.

The second part of the appointment was a vision & hearing test. They don’t take the results too seriously at this age, but they like to introduce it. Colton went first. We’re not 100% on our shapes yet so he struggled here & there with the shape eye chart. Then he put on some “funny” glasses and had to point to the shapes that popped out at him. The nurse said he did great. Next was putting on headphones and listening to directions as to which picture on the picture board to point to. He must have done fairly well on that part too. Next up was Wyatt! He struggled with the eye chart because he wasn’t totally covering one eye (his hand kept moving so it was almost on his cheek) and then when we’d tell him to cover it up…he’d cover both up!! Goof ball. He did well with the “funny” glasses & popping pictures piece. I also thought he was doing well with the headphones as well but he must not have been listening well because the nurse figured he was getting bored & was pointing at whatever he wanted too. Oh well; it was a fun experience to go through with them as an introduction anyway.

They both checked out happy & healthy!
