Winter Happenings

Ugggg…we’ve had a busy last couple of weeks & I’ve been really bad at getting pictures off of my camera, onto the computer. Pictures to come soon!

January
The last weekend in January we had a 4th birthday party for my good friends’ little girl “K”…and it was a princess bowling birthday party! The boys had never bowled before but were excited to go & had a blast doing it. It really kept their attention for most of the time. (Daddy was the main helper & got a good workout!) Delicious pizza & cake followed. Definitely an activity we’ll have to do as a family again to break up these cold winter months.

February
The first weekend in February started out with Cory & I having a hunting club banquet to go to with friends on Saturday night while Wyatt & Colton had a stay-over night with grandpa & grandma. They had a blast and kept grandpa & grandma busy! That Sunday, after naps, we headed over to a friends’ house for a Super Bowl party. We are so lucky to have such a great group of friends that get together a lot (both with & without kiddos). The boys had a blast playing with all the other kids & even watched a little football. Of course, the party only lasted until half-time for us before we headed home for the boys’ bedtime but we had good company & yummy food!

Last weekend we headed down to my sister’s house (who lives about an hour away) on Saturday for haircuts – Colton was long overdue! We got to tour their new house & stayed for lunch. My other sister & nephews were there as well so the boys had a fun time playing with their cousins. My sister has a nice little house with lots of updates (painting!) already planned.

Our other goal for last weekend: “OPERATION: No more nuks!”. The boys only really used them at bedtime & have been going without them at daycare for almost 6 months already. Don’t judge; we know we were long overdue for this transition (like, we actually planned on doing it right after their 2nd birthday this past summer), but it’s like any other change with kids…we were nervous & dreading it, especially since they have been sleeping so well lately. We took them on a little shopping trip to Target where they each picked out a new Jake & the Pirates blanket, spyglass & figurine. When we arrived home after dinner out, they both got their nuks & threw them in the garbage themselves. In return, they were able to open up all their new Jake stuff we had just bought. The first night went pretty well, as only Colton asked/cried for his nuk (which SHOCKED me since he’s the one least attached, I thought Wyatt would have been the one to give me troubles). Naps & bedtime really went fairly well through the rest of the weekend & nuks were only asked for a couple times. Their overnight sleep wasn’t the greatest but I think that was just part of the adjustment because it has gone back to normal (sleeping all through the night) throughout this week. SUCCESS!!

In other good news – I would consider both boys completely potty trained…and it wasn’t as bad of a process as I thought it would be! Wyatt was my holdout (just with going #2) but has been going on the potty all of the time since the beginning of February. Colton has really been doing awesome since the beginning of the year. Both boys are doing great now and, as of yesterday, are no longer going to get “prizes” at daycare for going because they have been so consistent. They remain in diapers overnight but stay dry about 95% of the time both during naps & overnight sleep.

Yesterday (Valentine’s Day) I came home to a potted tulip plant (my favorite!), chocolates & a heart-shaped pizza, which we had for dinner. The boys could barely keep the secret until we got inside the house…they were so excited that they had picked up flowers for mommy! I’m such a lucky gal with the 3 best (& cutest!) Valentine’s in the world!

What’s next?
We are getting very sick of winter & being cooped up! Bring on the warmer temps so we can enjoy being outdoors a little bit more.
