15 Months Old

How things have changed in the past month! We started last month out with Colton just taking a few steps sporadically and Wyatt only walking with assistance – to two, independently walking toddlers. I guess that make it official for them – they are no longer babies, but toddlers. Kind of sad for me to admit though.
September was a busy month beginning with Labor Day weekend and continuing with the celebrations of birthdays galore. The weather has still stayed fairly nice (with the exception of one cold, rainy week) so we have still been able to enjoy walks & other activities outdoors. We’re even having an October “heat wave” (aka. Indian summer) with temps in the upper-70s & low-80s this week & into the weekend. I’m hoping to hit up a pumpkin patch with the boys this weekend so we can enjoy it without having to be all bundled up.

The boys have been sleeping awesome. The boys are still sleeping around 11-12 hours each night. They fall asleep somewhere between 6:45-7:15 PM. (Our bedtime routine is: bath (on bath night), lotion & jammies, blanket & book.) They go to bed semi-awake and do a good job of putting themselves to sleep. They both have been sleeping until around 6-6:45 AM.

The new recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics (April 2011) is to keep toddlers in rear-facing car seats until the age of 2 or until they reach the max height/weight for their seat (the previous recommendation was 12 months or 25 pounds). This has been extremely difficult with the boys in the past few weeks. They are getting taller and don’t like having their legs “squished” in the back seat. They are really good at getting their bodies “stiff as a board” and make it a struggle to get their legs bent. (Our pediatrician has assured us that even though their legs are all bent up, it is safer to be rear facing.) We will try to stay in rear facing car seats as long as possible, although it may be coming to an end in the next few months.

We’re having a fun, family night at our house tonight. My sister “C” and my two nephews will be coming over for dinner, as well as my parents. We’re making it a Mexican night with two taco rings I have to make after work tonight – yummy!

Wyatt

- walks independently
- shakes his head “No”
- jabbers
- likes climbing stairs
- loves bath time
- likes to snuggle with his blanket
- waves “Hi!” & “Bye!” to everyone

Signs
- “More” – kind of losing the use of this one, has been replaced with “Please” but I’m trying to teach them that there is a difference
- “Please”

Words
- “Ma” = mom
- “Da” = dad
- “Ma” = milk
- “That”
- “Da” = dog

Colton

- walks independently
- jabbers non-stop
- likes to climb on anything & everything (especially stairs!)
- likes bath time
- loves to throw things away (ex. the missing hair brush that we can’t find anywhere and I’m sure has left the house in a trash bag without our knowledge)
- likes to snuggle with his blanket
- waves “Hi!” & “Bye!” to everyone

Signs
- “More” – kind of losing the use of this one, has been replaced with “Please” but I’m trying to teach them that there is a difference
- “Please”

Words
- “Ma” = mom
- “Da” = dad
- “Up”
- “That”
- “Hi!”

  1. So cute!
A lot of my friends who have kids that age teach them to put their little legs kinda up on the seat, like stretched out upwards...does that make sense? Instead of being squished.

I know it will be awkward once we get there too...but broken legs are better than a broken neck if we are in a crash...
And the taco ring looks so cool! Gonna have to try that soon!

  2. That does make sense...I'm hoping to keep them rear-facing as long as possible for safety reasons for sure!
